Texas Hill Country Hunting
The Masser Ranch is located in western Gillespie County in the middle of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The Masser Ranch is conveniently located only about 85 miles from the San Antonio International Airport and about 125 miles from the Texas state capital of Austin. It is an area rich in the history of early Texas. The is made available to the sportsman who is seeking an outdoor experience producing memories for a lifetime. The terrain consists of rocky-rolling live oak savanna, peppered with a rich diversity of plant species, and laced with more than a mile of gin-clear spring-fed creeks that are stocked with largemouth bass, catfish, and bluegill sunfish.
An Abundance of Wildlife
The ranch is home to native white-tailed deer, Rio Grande turkey, many species of native and migrant birdlife, and small mammals. Bobwhite quail, ringneck pheasant, and chukar partridge have been introduced for traditional wing shooting. We are a working ranch with a primary emphasis on the abundant wildlife and secondary concerns to the domestic livestock on the ranch. A devotion to hunting, fishing, bird watching, outdoor photography, and other pursuits of wildlife appreciation and enjoyment are the main objectives of the Masser Ranch.
Management Practices
The Masser Ranch began its practices of wildlife management in 1971. In 1991 the ranch was surrounded by an 8-foot tall game fence to enable us to institute and follow through with a rigorous program of white-tailed deer management which includes:
- An intense supplemental feeding program of high protein feed
- Planting of food plots
- Controlled burning
- Habitat enhancement
- Game surveys
- Management buck hunts
- Doe Harvests
- Maintaining a 1-to-1 or better buck-to-doe ratio
